American Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (AAOMP) is a voluntary self regulating national organization, registered in Nevada on May 9, 2018 (certificate # C20180509-0762)   representing the interests of osteopathic manual practitioners, osteopathic manual practice as a health profession and consumer rights to safe and effective manual osteopathic care.  Our main focus is raising awareness of the osteopathic manual practice profession, lobbying, policy development, clinical quality and protecting the American public by registering and regulating osteopathic manual practitioners who join AAOMP to become Certified Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (COMP).  We are the first and only national association in the United States for osteopathic manual practitioners. 

What We Do

The main work of American Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (AAOMP) involves liaising with states and federal government, all other statutory bodies regarding professional, educational, legislative and regulatory issues as it relates to the osteopathic manual practice profession.  As the first ever association of osteopathic manual practitioners, our role is to increase awareness of osteopathic manual practice and what certified osteopathic manual practitioners (C.O.M.P.) do. We are committed to improving the health and well-being of American people by informing the public and assuring them of competent and ethical osteopathic manual practice care.

Osteopathic manual practice (also known as osteopathy, manual osteopathy or European style osteopathy outside the US) is a health profession that offers patient-centred whole body approaches to healthcare for functional improvement and pain relief. OMP recognises the vital link between the structure of the body and the way it functions. Osteopathic manual practitioners (OMPs) focus on how the skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulation, connective tissue and internal organs function as a holistic unit.  Osteopathy in US (also known as osteopathic medicine or American style osteopathy) was founded in 1874 by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still. Currently in the United States osteopathy is a medical system of care, indistinguishable from medicine. There are over 145,000 students and osteopaths (also known as osteopathic physicians) in USA.
