To protect the title of COMP (Certified Osteopathic Manual Practitioner) awarded by the American Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (AAOMP), it has been copyright in Canada (registration # 1149622) with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office of the government of Canada. The COMP title is also in the process of being copyrighted in the States. This copyright assures that only AAOMP is legally permitted to award this title in the States and Canada.

We just applied for registration of the copyright to the COMP - Certified Osteopathic Manual Practitioner title in the states. It will take about 9 to 12 months to get it approved. The registration number with the United States Copyright Office is 1-6561455901.

The American Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (AAOMP), based in Nevada (USA) is trademarking COMP (Certified Osteopathic Manual Practitioner) nationally in US. The title will be issued only to AAOMP members who have successfully completed the board exams of the American Osteopathic Manual Practice Examining Board (AOMPB). We want a unified title to be used in US as to fully distinguish us from osteopathic physicians. AAOMP members are required to use the term "Osteopathic Manual Practice" instead of "osteopathy".
