COMP Certification



American Osteopathic manual practitioners who join the American Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners are awarded the title of COMP: Certified Osteopathic Manual Practitioner.
To become certified please apply for a certificate of registration by submitting a completed application form together with a recent colored passport size photo (or scan of one), and the one time applicable fee of US$150 plus US$200 annual membership (total of US$350). The US$350 application and first year membership fee is non-refundable.
The following are required to become certified by the American Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners:

1. You must be a graduate of an institute that is accredited by the US Council on Osteopathic Manual Practice Education (www.ucompe.org), Your school transcript must be mailed to AAOMP by your school.  

2. You must not have been found guilty of an offence that is relevant to your suitability to practice in a healthcare field. Applicants are required to disclose all past offences, findings or professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity, and findings of malpractice or professional negligence.

3. You must have passed the examination set and administered by the American Osteopathic Manual Practice Examining Board (www.aompeb.org).
4. You must adhere to our code of ethics. Applicants should understand that AAOMP has a disciplinary process and that complaints can be registered against you by patients, third party payor, health professionals and/or other members. Applicants are required by AAOMP to upgrade themselves regularly by taking continuing education courses as specified and approved by AAOMP.
5. You are required to demonstrate a minimum level of communication skill in English as a requirement to providing effective care to the American public.
6. You are required to have professional liability protection (also known as errors and omission or malpractice insurance). Certified osteopathic manual practitioners (COMP) are required to maintain professional liability protection to protect themselves and clients from any possible acts of malpractice, professional negligence, professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity.
7. You must submit proof of certification in Standard First Aid and CPR.
8. You must submit a scanned or printed copy of a government issued photo identification.
